Pony Excess Blog Post

What is my purpose or theme?
The purpose/theme of this movie is to show that cheaters always get caught. SMU cheated, got caught, and their football program was shut down for 2 years. Cheating ruined the program for 25 years.

Was the death penalty a fair sentence?
I think the death penalty was a fair sentence because the NCAA made that rule to stop what SMU was doing. SMU was warned and already punished one season, but they kept paying the players and breaking the NCAA's rules. If they stopped paying the player they wouldn't have gotten this penalty, but they didn't stop.

What were some positives and negatives of this situation?
Some positives is that SMU got really good recruits and became a great team. The negatives are that they got the death penalty, and didn't have a football team for 2 years. They also became a very bad team after all the players transferred to different schools. There were more negatives then positives in this situation.

After SMU was given the death penalty what was occurring?
The players were aloud to transfer to a different school, and they didn't have to sit out a year. A lot of the players went on recruiting trips, and coaches came to SMU. Some left the day that the penalties came down.

Is cheating ever going to be eliminated in terms of recruiting?
I don't think it will ever go away because some schools are desperate for the top high school athletes, and they are willing to risk not getting caught. I think if more teams got the "death penalty" then people would stop cheating in recruiting.

What are some solutions to paying of college athletes?
Some solutions to paying athletes are giving the program penalties every time they do it. If more programs get penalties or suspensions, other schools will eventually stop cheating because they would want to avoid the penalties.
